Chapter text messages

How the Epsilon Mu Graduate Chapter uses text messages, how a brother consents to receive them, and how he stops them.

Epsilon Mu Graduate Chapter Notifications

Chapter and event notifications for members of the Epsilon Mu Graduate Chapter of Phi Kappa Tau. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel, HELP for help.

Chapter text messages are being set up. Nothing is sent to any brother's phone until he has opted in as described below.

Who sends these messages, and to whom

Messages are sent by the Epsilon Mu Graduate Chapter to brothers who are members of the chapter's website at emgraduatechapter.org and who have chosen to receive them. We do not send messages to anyone who is not a member of the chapter, and we do not send marketing or promotional messages of any kind.

What we send

How a brother opts in

Consent is given by the brother himself, on the chapter website, after he has signed in:

  1. He goes to emgraduatechapter.org and creates an account. A brother already in the chapter then admits him; until that happens he can see nothing.
  2. He opens My Profile and enters his own mobile number in the Mobile number field. The field is blank until he fills it in.
  3. Under How we reach you he sets Send notifications by to Text message or Email and text. The default is On this site only, which sends nothing to his phone.
  4. Beside that choice he is shown this disclosure before he saves: "By choosing text message you agree to receive chapter and event notifications from the Epsilon Mu Graduate Chapter at the mobile number on your profile. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel, HELP for help."
  5. He presses Save changes. Nothing is sent to his phone until he has done so.

No brother is opted in by default, and no brother is opted in by anyone other than himself. A number typed by one brother into another brother's record is never used to send messages.

How a brother opts out

Either way works, at any time:

Reply HELP to any chapter text for help, or write to the chapter through the website.
